South Australian Derby

There are 27 horses nominated for the 2011 Group 1 SA Derby at Adelaide’s Morphettville Racecourse and most of the top trainers right around the country are represented.

The event is worth $350,000 to the winner across a 2500m trip and there are some proven horses running into a barrage of up and coming talent.

David Hayes has Precious Lorraine, a horse which is well travelled and certainly very experienced at the longer trips in Australian racing.

Anthony Cummings is represented by the single runner, Shadows In The Sun, and it’s the same story for the vast majority of trainers with only a couple fielding more than one chance.

For Peter Snowden it’s Backgammon and for Mick Price it’s Echoes Of Heaven.

After a quiet showing in Sydney Leigh Childs is relying on Heez Born Lucky and Michael Moroney has Stratocracy.

It’s the big names who are bringing the big chances as well with Mark Kavanagh’s Kittens one of the most fancied in the field for the South Australian Derby.

Jeter for John P Thompson is also well and truly in the mix after a solid Autumn season.

The other name to stand out on the list is probably Glacier King, an honest horse which always tries hard for trainer Peter White.
