Zabeelionaire Faces SA Derby 2012 Test – Race Preview

April 18th, 2012

The Group 2 SA Derby is due to run at Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday May 5, 2012.

Run over a distance of 2,500 metres, the 2012 SA Derby will be run under set weight conditions.

The 2012 SA Derby is open to horses aged three-years-old only and is worth $350,000 in prize money.

Zabeelionaire will have his 2012 SA Derby test at Caulfield this Saturday.

The three-year-old colt will have to win or at least prove that he can win when he takes on the tough Victorian competition this weekend.

Zabeelionaire finished fifth in the $70,000 Amelia’s Story Handicap on April 7, 2012, and trainer Leon Corstens was not happy with the result.

“I am looking forward to this race after he was a bit disappointing last time,” Corstens said.

“I think he is better held up so we will try it this week and see how we go.

“His work has been very, very good and he should be winning races.”

Zabeelionaire will also be having his last chance to prove himself as a worthy stallion prospect this weekend.

“He should be as good as gold, if not we will geld him and turn him out,” the trainer said.

Zabeelionaire has won one of his nine race starts and has earned more than $100,000 in prize money during his career.
