Strike The Stars is in top form ahead of his South Australian Derby run this Saturday May 5, 2012, at Morphettville racecourse.
Trainer Anthony Cummings tested the star during trackwork this morning and was impressed with what he saw.
Strike The Star finished fourth in the Group 1 Australian Derby on April 14, 2012, and will be looking to post his first autumn win in the 2012 South Australian Derby.
“His work since the Derby has been excellent,” Cummings said.
“He recovers extremely well from his races and I think he has to be among the top three chances.
“The only run he’s had in the reverse direction was probably the best run of his preparation so I’m confident on that score.”
Strike The Stars has won just one of his 12 race starts, but has won more than $400,000 in prize money during his career.
The Savabeel gelding won his only start in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes at Rosehill Racecourse on September 17, 2011.
Cummings confirmed that Strike The Stars may also head up to Brisbane for the Winter Carnival to run in the Group 1 Queensland Derby on June 9, 2012.
“There is a chance he could run in both,” Cummings said.
“The reality is this is the easiest racing he will have over the next couple of years.
“The racing will get tougher not easier when he steps up to weight-for-age.”
